On Sunday we took a trip over to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch.  We had a really good time sitting there watching music videos.  My wife and I were both teens in the eighties, the heyday of MTV, and we both miss the fact that there's no channel on TV where one can go to watch back-to-back music videos.  If you ask me, there's still a huge market for that, but I digress....

We spoke to the manager at the hard rock about some of the musical acts they will be featuring, and it seems that they have live music several nights a week.  We plan to go listen to some of them as time permits.  There was a time before when Marisa and I were here and we heard a band called Enigma at the Hard Rock.  They are still playing there two nights a week, so we hope to go catch them before we leave.

More later....

1st Day in Singapore

I'm in Singapore for the next two weeks on a business trip.  My wife, Marisa, came along with me so that she could take in the sights.  We spent our first day trying to adjust our body clocks to the different timezone (At this time of year, Singapore is 14 hours ahead of Houston).  This photo is from our visit to Chinatown.  This week begins the celebrations around the Chinese Lunar New Year, which is a huge celebration in Singapore.  During this time of year, Chinatown is filled with elaborate decorations, and extra streets are closed off to vehicular traffic, allowing for hawkers to set up long lines of booths to sell holiday food.  In the background you can see many types of dried meat.  We stopped at one booth where they were selling all sorts of jelly and nut candies.  These aren't nearly as sweet as what we're used to in the United States, but they are quite good, and I suspect are considerably better for you than the ones we eat at home.  More from Singapore in later posts as the trip progresses.
